- Before European settlers arrived in Kingston, it was part of lands of the Wampanoag people. Ancient Native American burial sites have been located in Kingston.
- Kingston was first settled by Europeans in 1620, part of the north of the town of Plymouth.
- Kingston was incorporated in 1726 .

- Kingston is home of the longest continuously run boat yard in North America.
- Jones River Pond was used to harvest ice and was renamed to Silver Lake for marketing purposes during the height of the ice harvesting export industry and retains the name today.
- In the early 1990s the Old Colony Railroad was reopened as a commuter rail connecting Kingston with Boston making it a very attractive home base for commuters to Boston.
